I can't see it  being any more uncontrolled than cars are today, in fact
I'll bet they wind up far MORE controlled than cars are today.
Governments are far more aware of the capability of technology to cause
rapid social change, and I can't see every man and his dog being able to
wildly fly them about willy-nilly. I expect we'll have designated
transportation corridors, in much the same way we have roads.

Still, given that about 1/3 rd of a city's surface area is devoted to
cars (I am making this up but I'm pretty sure that's about the
fraction), just eliminating roads would have to go a long way towards
reducing humanity's footprint on the earth.

This is pretty much my long-term goal, somewhere totally remote and
unreachable by ground, spectacular and serene...
